SALT LAKE CITY — A flood advisory remains in place for Emigration Creek, extending from Emigration Canyon to 1300 East and 2100 South in Sugar House.
The advisory comes as the state warms up. Utah saw highs in the 60s on Saturday and in the mid-70s on Sunday.
KSL Meteorologist Matt Johnson said highs will likely reach the mid-70s again on Monday.
“That will send another round of water down the mountainside. This flood advisory is in place for Emigration Creek through Wednesday morning at 9 a.m.,” Johnson said.
The highest flows of Emigration Creek will be in the late-night hours, around midnight, according to Johnson. He said those living near this potential flooding should be aware of the timing.
Meteorologists expect a cold front to move across Utah beginning on Tuesday, which will help the potential flooding by dropping the high temperatures into the 50s for the majority of the week.
The rain will also play a role. “We do also have rain-on-snow, which will also increase the snow melt,” said National Weather Service forecaster Linda Cheng. She added that the flood level could still exceed current forecasts depending on how much rain falls during tomorrow’s cold spell.
On Saturday, hundreds of volunteers filled sandbags at Sugar House Park, and on Monday morning a representative from Salt Lake County Public Works said that sandbags and supplies are available at multiple filling locations across the city.
