Okinawa Temple update from Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

SALT LAKE CITY — The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Monday the open house and dedication dates for the Okinawa Japan Temple. Additionally, church leadership also announced the upcoming closure and renovation of the San Diego California Temple.

Okinawa Japan Temple

The public open house for the Okinawa Japan Temple will begin Sept. 23. It will run through Oct. 7 with the exception of Sundays, according to a church news release.

Elder Gary E. Stevenson, of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will dedicate the temple in two sessions on Nov. 12. 

Prior to the public open house, a media day will be held on Sept. 21. A day later, invited guests will tour the temple on Sept. 22. 

The temple was first announced by President Russell M. Nelson in April 2019. A groundbreaking ceremony for the temple was held in December 2020. 

San Diego California Temple

The First Presidency announced the San Diego California Temple will close for extensive renovation in July 2023. 

According to the news release, the date of the renovation completion will be announced at a later date. Additionally, open house and dedication dates will also be announced in the future. 

Earlier this month, President Nelson announced two additional temple sites in California – Bakersfield and San Jose. 

Bonneville International Corporation, the company that owns KSL NewsRadio, is a subsidiary of Deseret Management Corporation, which is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
