Crews rescue man trapped in trench at construction site

SPANISH FORK, Utah — Spanish Fork police spent hours working to free a man trapped in a trench in Spanish Fork Tuesday morning.

According to police, the man was working at a construction site near 900 East and 1900 North.

Police say he went into the trench to check how deep it was. Following this, it collapsed around him, trapping him up to his waist. According to a press release, this occurred at approximately 9:50 a.m.

Crews spent most of the morning working to get him out safely.

Upon their arrival, police say the man was conscious and speaking with them the whole time. According to the press release he told police he was in severe pain and could not free himself.

According to the press release, trench rescue crews built a safe trench box and extricated the man. He had been stuck for approximately two hours.

Following this, Intermountain Lifeflight flew the man to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in stable condition.
