Man arrested after allegedly shooting two people with a BB gun, made threats with knife

LEHI, Utah — Officers from the Lehi Police Department took a 33-year-old man into custody on Thursday after he allegedly shot two people with a BB gun. He also allegedly threatened to harm one of them with a large knife. 

According to a news release from the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched for a report of a man who had been shot by a BB gun. It occurred in the area of 8000 West in Lehi around 1:30 p.m. Allon the same land as the Lehi Farmer’s Market.

Deputies requested that Lehi police respond to the scene until they could get there. 

As law enforcement was en route to the scene, they were notified by dispatch that the suspect was holding a 10-inch knife to the back of a woman.

When officers from the Lehi Police Department arrived on the scene, they saw the suspect standing behind the woman pointing the knife at her. Officers ordered the suspect to drop the knife. He complied with the orders and was taken safely into custody.

The suspect has been identified as Mason Reese Wright. 

Neither victims were seriously injured.

Police: suspect allegedly shot a man and woman with BB gun

Deputies learned, during the course of their investigation, that after Wright had allegedly shot the man and woman with the BB gun, he threatened to harm the woman.

The news release states, the suspect chased the woman around the inside of an RV, which the man and woman had been living in. The release also states that the suspect had been living there for several days.

The woman was able to escape from the RV and run to another trailer where someone called 911. Moments later, Lehi Police arrived on the scene to find the suspect allegedly holding a knife to the back of the woman.

Intoxication

At the Utah County Jail, the suspect was tested for alcohol. According to the news release, Wright had an alcohol level that was more than three times the legal limit. 

Law enforcement personnel also discovered that the suspect was a convicted felon. The news release states that he is a Category 1 – restricted person. As such, he is not allowed to be in possession of any dangerous weapons.

Wright was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of the following: Attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person and intoxication.
