WEBER COUNTY, Utah — A rescue effort at Weber River has now turned to a recovery effort following reports of someone screaming in the water and a woman in her 20’s missing in the area.

Tune in at 7:45 a.m. to hear about river safety

At approximately 5:40 p.m. Monday, three to four reports came in of a person being in the water and screaming.

“They couldn’t tell if it was a male or female, couldn’t tell an age, but said they could hear them screaming,” said Dep. Chief David Reed with the Weber Fire District.

The Weber Fire District and sheriff’s deputies on scene told KSL TV that those calls came in about five to seven minutes apart from each other, which raised concern.

“You just hope that you don’t have something like this happening,” said Meredith Weber, a witness to the rescue efforts.

Around that same time, a report came in of a missing juvenile in the area, which was later corrected to a woman in her 20’s.

For several hours, crew members were stationed at 20 different checkpoints along the river — from Uintah to Marriott-Slaterville, which is approximately a 10-mile span — searching for the possible victim.

“The rapids are just, it’s insane,” said witness Cody Whitten.

“I mean, experienced swimmers and kayakers could struggle in this,” Reed said.

Those rescue efforts switched to a recovery effort at approximately 10 p.m.

As of  Monday night, there has been no confirmation of an individual being found in the water.
