SALT LAKE CITY — Police say they have arrested a suspect involved in a shooting that left two people hospitalized Monday night.

SLCPD Sgt. Mark Wian told KSL that, on Monday night, someone fired on a parked pickup truck at 17th South River Park, at 1150 West 1700 South in Salt Lake City.

Police say the shooter then turned to a crowd of 30 people playing and watching a soccer game and fired on them.

Wian said the shooter fled the scene.

“The shooter left the scene before officers arrived,” Wian said. “There is no known suspect description available … but they should be considered armed and dangerous.”

Officers performed life-saving aid on a 21-year-old man, who remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Sergeant Wian said a second shooting victim ran from the scene. With the help of a K9 team, that victim was found in a field just south of the shooting scene.

“Officers rendered medical aid for several minutes until paramedics and firefighters arrived,” Wian said.

Whether the two victims were at the soccer field for the same reason is unclear.
