SALT LAKE CITY  —  Flooding across the state of Utah has residents and businesses preparing for the worst and hoping for the best. On a recent episode of Dave and Dujanovic, also known as D2, Be Ready Utah dives into how it was created and how to prepare for flooding.

April of 2006 was the beginning of Be Ready Utah. Saint George was experiencing major flooding, and to help Utahns be ready for any natural disaster, former Governor Herbert created the program.

Utah’s culture somewhat ingrains emergency preparedness in how Utahns live. That said, “we can always learn more,” Anna Boynton, the Be Ready Utah Manager told Dave and Dujanovic.

“That’s the whole point of Be Ready Utah. It is to help everyone in the state be more prepared,” said Bryan Stinson the Be Ready Utah Outreach Specialist. “So the first responders can help people that really need the help.”

How to prepare for flooding in Utah this season

Boynton said that the program sends out updates daily about flooding through social media outlets. And those updates are an excellent way for homeowners to stay prepared and in the know.

“This is a good place to look up flood tips,” she said.

Also, she said it’s a great resource “to check if you are in a vulnerable area.”

Stinson adds that going to the website is a good place to check for areas prone to flooding.

He said you can see “what hazards can happen in my area and what specific actions can I take to be ready for that hazard.”

Additionally, a great resource for specific flood information about what to use for flood control can be found at the Be Ready Utah website.
