SALT LAKE CITY — A former Salt Lake City Express Mail Clerk with the United States Postal Service was accused by a federal jury of destroying immigration mail intended for delivery.
Diana K. Molyneux worked at the Processing and Delivery Center in Salt Lake City on the night shift.
According to a release from the United States Department of Justice, mail from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, USCIS, had gone missing in the fall of 2017. Then, mail workers reported finding USCIS mail that was tampered with or at locations for shredding.
Between April 2018 and June 2018, video footage was recovered of Molyneux taking priority immigration mail and tampering with and or destroying it.
Following her termination, complaints of lost USCIS mail ceased.
Molyneux was found guilty of destruction of mail, and sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 1, 2023.
“Ms. Molyneux used her position as a U.S. Postal employee to interfere with the delivery of mail. The fact that she targeted immigration mail makes this offense more egregious,” said U.S. Attorney Trina A. Higgins of the District of Utah.
