TOOELE, Utah — A student at Tooele Junior High School brought an unloaded firearm onto campus Thursday morning, according to police. And after a string of messages about the firearm, from a student to a teacher and upward to a school administrator, it was confiscated by the school’s resource officer.

“We got tipped off to it,” said Tooele City PD Corporal, Colbey Bentley, “our (Student Resource Officer) located the student and was able to confirm that the student did have a handgun.”

Bentley said the resource officer confiscated the handgun. They did not find ammunition inside the gun or in the magazine.

Police said the gun came from the student’s parent’s home.

Police also said that an investigation continues, but that “it does not appear there was malicious intent.”
