TOOELE, Utah — Tooele is getting a new domestic violence shelter. Just as South Valley Services celebrates 25 years of service, it has acquired a Tooele-based domestic violence shelter.

According to South Valley Services Development Director Josie White, the Pathways Domestic Violence Shelter in Tooele has been around for several years.

“We acquired it (the shelter) because without our help they would have had to shut their doors,” she says. “And, rural Utah has been a historically underserved community especially when it comes to domestic violence and sexual assault services.”

According to a press release, the shelter “will offer emergency, short- and long-term shelter and services, such as advocacy, case management, and prevention services for women, men and children experiencing psychological, physical, emotional, economic or sexual abuse at home.”

South Valley Services made the announcement at their commUNITY Breakfast event Thursday morning.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to rally around domestic violence and sexual assault survivors in both urban and rural Utah,” White says in the press release. “We’re delighted to have acquired the Pathways Shelter in Tooele. It’s our chance to save and transform lives with a stellar team in an underserved area. This, of course, is made possible only by community support.”

Along with the announcement, South Valley Services also raised funds during the commUNITY Breakfast event.

Along with Tooele, the not-for-profit company has community resource center locations in West Jordan, Riverton, Kearns and West Valley.
