SALT LAKE— If you’re intending to camp this upcoming Memorial Day weekend, you’ll want to begin the planning process ahead of time.

After a long winter, many eager Utah residents are ready to head outdoors.

With high demand, Utah State Park officials remind visitors to reserve a camping spot before hitting the road.

“Always plan to get a reservation before you head out. That goes for campsites especially. A lot of campgrounds fill up very very quickly. So it’s important that you check before you go,” says Utah state park public information officer Devan Chavez.

Campground reservations can be made four months in advance and group sites can be reserved 11 months in advance.

The most popular Memorial Day weekend sites include reservoir areas such as Jordanelle State Park, Sand Hollow State Park, and Deer Creek State Park.

“If you’re planning to visit one of those places either with day use or with camping, get a reservation beforehand. If it’s the day of, I always encourage people to check their current conditions to see if there are any excessive wait times,” says Chavez.

With 42 different State Parks, Chavez reminds visitors that Memorial Day weekend may be a good time to try a new park that won’t be as busy.

“Taking the time out of your day to go and experience something new might help you find your new favorite place.”
