SALT LAKE CITY — Search and rescue crews are pleading with Utahns to take more care around our rivers and waterways.
Salt Lake County Search and Rescue Commander, Wayne Bassman, said the snow melt continues to feed rivers until they are high and fast. And he added, you can’t walk, wade or swim through water like this.
“If you hit one rock wrong, you’ll bust a rib, break an arm, or get a limb entrapment.” Bassman said, “If you get in it, you will get hurt, or will possibly die. It doesn’t get any simpler than that.”
Bassman said rivers will continue to be dangerous for at least another month. In the meantime, he asks families to keep their pets and loved ones at least 10 feet from the river bank’s edge unless they are wearing life jackets.
