SALT LAKE CITY — A firefighter is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the firefighter’s union.

Joshua Diamond was a treasurer of the Salt Lake City Firefighter’s Union. He is now charged with several felonies.

Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill says investigators discovered that more than $133,000 of union funds were stolen over a period of several years.

“He certainly said he intended to pay them back, but the allegation is, of course, he was not authorized to (the funds),” said Gill.

Gill says several different accounts were hit. One union savings account was drained by cash withdrawals.  And $4,000 in donations were taken that were from the Fill the Boot campaign in 2014.
