HIGHLAND – Safety officials are praising the quick actions of a person who performed CPR on a two year-old girl, keeping her alive.
The girl was spotted on the side of a pool in a backyard on Penn Brooke Lane in Highland. Medic Landon Flack says witnesses reported to them the girl was not breathing with a grey, ash color to her skin, but, someone nearby jumped into action.
Flack says, “[They] started CPR, flipped her over and did a couple back thrusts. [They] flipped her over again and started CPR one more time.”
Flack says that person saved the girl’s life. “Once coughing initiated, the patient started screaming and crying, which is always a good sign for us,” Flack says. They kept a close eye her breathing while transporting her to Mountain Point Medical Center, and didn’t see any signs of secondary drowning.

Medic Alex Williams says everyone needs to keep a very close watch on kids near any body of water since drownings can happen very quickly.
“Take a quick glance away and, yeah, she stumbled off on her own and found the water,“ he says.
