BOTHWELL – Cheyenne Burnhope can vividly remember the mother of the child screaming for help while pulling the boy from a canal.  She, and her father, jumped into action.  She says, “I didn’t think he was going to make it.  Finally, he took a breath and we got him to start spitting up.”

Burnhope says she just got certified in infant CPR last week, and she’s very glad she took that course.  “When we heard the mom yell, ‘My baby’s not breathing!’ that’s when we rushed down here and saw what happened.  I’m just thankful that we both knew what to do,” she says.

She took the course with her father, Roger, who hopes more people learn the life-saving technique.  He says, “If you don’t know how to do it, you’re not going to be able to help somebody out in that situation.  I think that’s the message I’d like to give.”

Family members of the baby didn’t want to be interviewed, but said the baby is doing better.
