HIGHLAND — Fireworks might be to blame for an elementary school fire that caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage.

Ridgeline Elementary School in the city of Highland caught fire overnight Saturday into Sunday.

Video shows flames erupting from the roof of the school just after midnight. Despite the size of the fire, firefighters say they had it under control in about 15 minutes.

Officials say the fire caused between $200-300,000 in water, smoke and fire damage. It happened right above the kindergarten rooms.

The state fire marshal’s office says investigators found illegal fireworks in the area but they are still looking into the case.

Classes ended about a week ago but there are some things that happen in the school over the summer.
