MURRAY — A new resource unveiled Tuesday hopes to help potentially thousands of refugees in Utah learn their rights and have better interactions with law enforcement.
There’s a new refugee rights card in Utah for refugees to carry and give to police.
Noor Ul-Hasan works with many refugees as they come to Utah, and says they are often fearful of law enforcement or don’t know how to interact with them.
“We already do outreach in terms of police visiting them, but they still live in fear because of the times we live in right now,” she said.
The card outlines a refugee’s rights, and how to act with police.
It also lists the number of the Refugee Justice League, which provides attorneys and a translator to be there when a refugee interacts with law enforcement.
