Utah congressional delegation reacts to shooting at VA park

ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA and SALT LAKE CITY UTAH — A top House Republican, Steve Scalise of Louisiana, was shot by a rifle-wielding gunman Wednesday at a congressional baseball practice just outside of Washington. Several other people were also believed to have been hit.

No members of Utah’s congressional delegation were there, but they are all quickly reacting this morning.

Senator Orrin Hatch’s office tweeted:  “Our prayers are with @SteveScalise and other victims. Incredibly glad Capitol Police were on hand to intervene. Monitoring the situation.”

Representative Mia Love tweeted:  “#shooting happened at men’s baseball practice-I play in women’s softball game-separate. Concerned for all my friends this a.m. #utpol”

and “I appreciate all those who have reached out-I am fine.  Thank you for your concern.  #utpol”

Representative Jason Chaffetz wrote: “Praying for my colleagues this morning. God bless”

And Representative Chris Stewart said: “My prayers are w Steve and others who were shot. Their family’s as well. Angry and heartbroken.”
