SALT LAKE CITY – This heat can be especially threatening to people who are shut-in or who can’t afford places to go cool off.

That’s part of the reason why Salt Lake County Aging and Adult Services has established something called cool zones. This is a place for people to be able to go and cool off from this heat.

“Any member of the public can come at no cost to them enter an air condition environment that will help them stay safe from heat-related illness,” says spokesman Afton January from the Aging and Adult Services Department.

You can go to their website, enter your zip code, and you can see the nearest cool zones in your area.

Afton says most of the time the issues they see in this kind of heat is respiratory or heat related health issues. They also have those who volunteer with Ride For Wellness or Meals on Wheels spend a little more time in each home, have a conversation, and check for what the indoor environment is like for those they are visiting.
