RSL shows support for boy injured in Sandy shooting

SANDY – It’s an extremely happy day for an 11-year-old boy who was seriously injured from a shooting that left his mother and his brother dead.  He got a large showing of support from his favorite team.

Normally, sports fans line up to see their favorite players to get an autograph.  Today, it was the other way around, as the entire roster of Real Salt Lake players lined up to greet Myles Rackley.  “It was amazing, having everyone come and do this for us,” Rackley says.

The team signed jerseys, RSL scarves, and balls while thanking Myles for being a fan.  He also got a pair of autographed gloves from his favorite player, Goalkeeper Nick Rimando.  He had tried to see Rimando a year ago, but, that didn’t work out since they were late for the game.  “I was supposed to.  He invited me to a game and gave me a jersey and a ball for last year.”

So, what’s he going to do with all that newly signed gear?  “I’ll probably just keep them safe in my room and, maybe, show them off to a couple people,” says Rackley.

The visit was arranged by Jon Cervantes, a friend of the Rackley family.  Cervantes says he wanted to make Myles and his family happy after they’ve had so much suffering.  He says, “It just felt really awesome, seeing this kid smile.”
