SALT LAKE CITY — Mental health experts say the 4th and 24th of July can be traumatic for veterans with PTSD.

VFW Quartermaster Roy Kunzi says the sudden, booming sounds of fireworks can cause anxiety and stress.

“They hear that noise, they think they are back in war, and it causes them a lot of discomfort and a lot of grief,” he said.

Yard signs are becoming more popular each year that say “a veteran lives here, please be courteous with fireworks.” A national group called “Military With PTSD” distributes them.
