Military family robbed in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY – A military family driving from South Carolina to Washington ends up being robbed in Salt Lake City.  The thieves took two years worth of family data.

The Abrahamson family made a pit stop in Salt Lake City, staying at a hotel near the airport.  But, when they woke up on the Fourth of July, they saw their trailer had been hitched to a different vehicle and taken.  Robin Abrahamson says, “Remnants of the lock were still left on the ground, behind the van.” It was later found abandoned in a field near 4800 West and 1100 South.

Inside, there were clothes, laptop accessories and even heirloom weapons which were stolen.  But, the most valuable thing was a Drobo data backup system.  She says they used it because they moved around a lot.  She adds, “In the event your computer crashes, you could go back into the Drobo system and pull out any information you recently backed up onto it.”

The information she says was uploaded onto their Drobo included things like medical records, banking information and credit card data.  Abrahamson says, “Not only was the trailer stolen, but, we were also getting notices from our credit card companies asking if we had authorized some of the charges being billed to the credit card.”

They’ve put a freeze on their children’s social security numbers so no new lines of credit are opened in their name.
