Salt Lake City leaders- donating to panhandling is donating to addiction

SALT LAKE CITY – Local leaders presented a united front today as they announced a new campaign to funnel more donations to service providers and less to panhandlers asking for money on the street.
“These people that are caught up in addiction that have alcohol or drug problems, they need help,” said Police Chief Mike Brown today on 200 West and Main Street. “Giving them that twenty dollars is not helping. Give it to a service provider so we can support treatment beds.”
