SALT LAKE CITY — Russian authorities violated the nation’s constitution last year when they deported two LDS volunteers, formerly known as missionaries.

A Russian high court says deporting the two elders violated their constitutional rights.

The court ruled that elder Nathanael Worden of Texas and Elder Drake Oldham of North Logan, Utah were properly registered and not in violation of Russian rules when they were detained last August.

Both spoke with the Deseret News today, and say they still love the country and its people. You can read that article here.

News of the ruling comes exactly one year after Vladimir Putin signed a new law limiting missionary work in Russia.  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints now assigns volunteers to do more service in Russia instead of proselytizing work.
