WASATCH FRONT – Meteorologists say we’re on track to have the hottest summer in recorded Utah history. They say July of 2017 broke the past record by a significant margin. National Weather Service Meteorologist Charlotte Dewey says, “July, on record, turned out to be 85.3 degrees, which is a full degree above 2013, which was the previous record.”
Not only that, but, we broke the 2013 record for warmest overnight lows. So, even at night, Utahns weren’t able to get as much relief from the heat as they would have liked. She says, “Even for people who have been here five years or 25 years, it just doesn’t feel very cool overnight. So, the daytime temperatures are feeling worse because it’s still hot.”
You may have to wait a while before things cool down significantly. Dewey says, “The pattern is continuing. It’s more of the same that we have seen for the last six to eight weeks.” This is due to a high pressure system that’s keeping the heat locked in place. Temperatures will be in the 90s for the rest of the week.
