SALT LAKE CITY – Investigators are releasing some of the details surrounding an officer involved shooting on State Street on Sunday night.

The shooting happened after police say they did a pedestrian stop on 50 year old Patrick Harmon, after 10 p.m.  Salt Lake Police Chief Mike Brown says, “Officer learned the suspect had warrants, including one for a second-degree felony.  [They] attempted to take him into custody, at which point, the suspect produced a weapon.”

Brown says Harmon produced a weapon, although, he is not saying what kind of weapon Harmon reportedly had.  “At some point, the suspect was shot by an officer.  Officers immediately rendered medical aid to the suspect,” Brown says.

The officers on the scene were wearing body cameras and the video has been handed over to the Unified Police Department for investigation.  Brown is also not naming the officer who shot Harmon.  “We want our officer to know we stand behind him.  We love him,” he says.

Brown says the body cam video will likely not be released to the public until after the DA’s investigation.
