SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah is getting set to kick off their football season today as they take on the Fighting Hawks of North Dakota.  And they are going to try out a shorter game.

The Pac-12 has a goal to shorten games, and tonight is the first to try it out.

The plan includes things like reduced break times between the quarters, reducing commercial breaks by as much as four minutes, and cutting halftime from 20 minutes to 15 if both programs agree.

They also plan to stick closer to the announced kickoff times for select games, meaning no more delayed starts.

“We are committed to exploring new ways to provide our fans with the most enjoyable and engaging entertainment experience,” said Larry Scott, Commissioner of the Pac-12, in a report published by the conference.
