SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake’s Mayor says she feels she was given a clear green light for a longer closure of Rio Grande Street for the homeless.
And we should learn more about the treatment phase of “Operation Rio Grande” today.
Salt Lake County Mayor and Sheriff will join advocates Thursday to discuss the path to treatment and how access to treatment will help the cycle of nonviolent arrestees going in and out of jail.
This comes after a meeting Wednesday night about the road closure for a safe space for the homeless.
That meeting was mostly positive.
With a majority support, it’s expected that Mayor Jackie Biskupski will likely sign a lease to close the street to only allow those with an ID seeking homeless services to get through.
