ROY – Family members of the woman whose car was hit by a crashing plane say she’s recovering well.  They’re stunned she wasn’t hurt more severely.

Samantha Sandoval was heading south on 1900 West in Roy when the plane slammed into the back of her car, spinning her around completely.  Her brother, Luke Draayer, says, “She honestly thought she got hit by a concrete truck.”

Draayer says a fire started in her car, but, nearby Roy City construction crews were nearby and were able to get her out of the car.  Sandoval was taken to the hospital as a precaution, but, Draayer says she was relatively unhurt.  “My sister is in pretty rough shape because of the impact that she took.  But, she got away with a broken pinkie.  Honestly, we believe that might have been from her trying to beat herself out of the car,” he says.

He adds that when he heard his sister was hit by a plane, he had trouble processing it.  He says they could have easily been planning his sister’s funeral had the situation been just slightly different.  Draayer says, “The only word I can use to describe it is ‘a miracle.’  Had it been another three to five feet forward, it would have been a completely different story.”
