WASHINGTON, D.C. — The United States Senate has one week left to do something about healthcare before they break for rest of this year. Will Congress be able to work out the disputes on the Graham-Cassidy bill or even be able to get enough votes to pass it as is.
The rush to push this latest bill through did not leave enough time for medical experts to give a C.B.O score. The other GOP bills designed to repeal the Affordable Care Act, shriveled under scrutiny and couldn’t get enough votes to pass.
This attempt, sponsored by Senators Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, is set for a vote next week, before the American Public can get a full picture of what it entails.
What is known, so far, is it would roll back Obamacare’s expansion of Medicaid, which enabled fourteen million people to obtain health-care coverage. Then it would create substantial cuts to Medicaid by converting it to a block-grant program. The legislation would create hundreds of billions of dollars in budget savings by cutting subsidies for the low-paid, the sick, and the infirmed and applying those savings to Republican tax cuts aimed at rich households and corporations.
