UTAH — A Utah family is frantic after almost a week of silence from relatives on Puerto Rico. The contact stopped just after hurricane Maria made landfall on the Island.

Tuesday was the last time Inelise Rivera Perez was able to get through to her family. She said they live in a small rural neighborhood and Perez is concerned they’ll be overlooked when workers hand out aid.

“We just don’t know if they have water if they have food,” Perez said.

Meanwhile, the Utah Red Cross said they haven’t sent any volunteers to the island because it’s difficult to arrange flights. They also plan to hold off until they get word it will be safe for those volunteers.
