The Police Association: protect officers under investigation like any other victim or suspect

SALT LAKE CITY — The Police Association is speaking out about an angry letter they sent to the Salt Lake City Police Chief and Mayor following the controversial arrest of a Utah nurse. The association says officers should be treated just as fairly as suspects and victims in an investigation.

The letter from the police association yesterday was the three pages long, saying the mayor and police chief spoke out of turn and the video was released too soon. Today Steve Hartney, president of the Police Associaton, stood in front of reporters and said he wished everyone had waited for the investigation before making statements.

“Making public statements that gives a tone of prejudging an officer causes us to lose faith in the system.” Hartney said.
