Ground breaking was held Wednesday for a major new development in Sugarhouse at the site of the old Shopko, but some residents have been worried it may be too big.

The “Park Avenue” development is projected to bring 700 employees and visitors to the already-busy area every day.

It includes a 170,000 square foot University of Utah Health Center, a 150,000 square foot office building, and housing units.

Salt Lake City leaders say it is a great future for that corner of Sugarhouse.

Developers say they are adding a new street connecting Highland Drive and 1300 East. They say it will be walkable, and people should walk, ride bikes or use the S Line.

But residents say that isn’t feasible for everyone all the time, and the area is just too full of new tall buildings and businesses and people.
