Rapper, singer, songwriter and producer Post Malone, whose real name is Austin Post, is making his home right here in the great state of Utah.

The genre-bending artist famous for songs like Rockstar Congratulations and the third and fourth top songs on the Billboard Hot 100, Goodbyes and Circles, originally was thrown into the spotlight in 2015 after releasing his song White Iverson on the music-sharing platform Soundcloud.

Malone grew up in Texas before moving to California to crash on a friend’s couch while he was making music. Then, he released the track that launched him into the spotlight.

But the 24-year-old artist says that California always left him feeling empty and lonely.

“This is an unfair statement to say,” Malone told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe in an interview, “but I feel like a lot of people want to be somebody and they will use every piece, last piece of you to better themselves and not think of anybody else.”

That’s something that he’s said he hasn’t found in Utah. TMZ reported that he recently purchased a $3 million home near Big Cottonwood Canyon early last year — a home that he could survive the apocalypse in.

Around the time he bought the home, he was spotted by people out in Morgan County. It created enough of a stir that the Morgan County Sheriff had to issue a statement telling people that, no, he was not performing at the local football game, and asked for his privacy to be respected.

Shortly after that, Malone purchased the 12,703 sq. ft. home that sits on nearly seven acres in Cottonwood Heights.

The home has five bedrooms, five bathrooms and a guest house,  and striking views of thousands of acres of conservation land, according to its real estate listing.

It was that beauty, along with Utah’s gun laws that brought Post Malone to Utah.

Malone is an avid shooter and told Rolling Stone that he enjoys the freedom that he can find in Utah.

“It’s free country out there. Like, you can buy suppressors in Utah. You can do open-carry. Walk into the grocery store with a handgun on your hip. Cowboy [explative].”

The rapper told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe that Utah’s stunning beauty was another big reason for his move away from Los Angeles. After doing a show out near the Great Salt Lake, he said, he fell in love with the area.

“I did a show in this dope venue next to the Salt Lake and the salt flats in Utah, and I said, you know what, it kinda stinks out here, but this is so beautiful, this is so awesome, and at that time I was already sick of LA … I kinda just wanted to get away where I can have my own oasis. We’re building a studio out there right now.”

Post Malone also told TMZ that he plans on putting 30 bunk beds at the property “for his best buds.”

He also gained some attention after filming a music video in Big Cottonwood Canyon.

The video shows the singer’s impressive collection of white supercars making their way through the canyon while Post sings about how his hard work has paid off, letting him enjoy the finer things in life.
