UPDATE 06/23/2020

After a deep clean and coronavirus tests for all of its employees, DMV Division Director Monte Roberts says the South Salt Lake DMV is ready to open on Wednesday, June 24th.  But, on a limited basis.

“Everyone who received their test results, came back as negative.”  Roberts continued,  “But, not all the employees have their tests results yet.”  That means reduced hours at the DMV and by appointment only.

There are many services which can be done on-line and the Department of Motor Vehicles is encouraging everyone to use that option, if at all possible.  Roberts is asking everyone to explore their website DMV.utah.gov to find out if their need can be done via the internet.

And, even if they need to make an appointment, Roberts said “the website will provide users with what they need to bring in person.”

SOUTH SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — The Utah State Tax Commission announced on Monday that the DMV office at 2880 S and 380 W in South Salt Lake will be closed until further notice in order to reduce the possible spread of COVID-19.

This decision for that office to be closed came after the DMV confirmed an employee tested positive over the weekend for the virus. Officials said the person did not have contact with the public but did have contact with other employees.

DMV Division Director Monte Roberts said anyone who had an appointment at the South Salt Lake DMV will need to reschedule at another office.

“This is frustrating for customers and employees but unavoidable given the situation,” Roberts said.

“All customer appointments scheduled at this office will be canceled. Those customers that have scheduled appointments are encouraged to schedule an appointment at other offices until the office is reopened.”

The Tax Commission says that the office will be cleaned and sterilized and that all employees will be cleared prior to reopening the office to the public.

Roberts also said no DMV will offer drive-through title or vehicle registration services after previous offices had the lengthy wait times and impacted traffic.

“We are also returning to the original intent for the drive-through service. New title and registration transactions require a longer time to process and create long wait times in the drive-through. These transactions will be serviced by appointment-only at an office, and will not be processed at a drive-through,” he said.

How To Prevent the Spread of COVID-19 Coronavirus

COVID-19 coronaviruses transmitted from person to person. It is a virus that is similar to the common cold and the flu. So, to prevent it from spreading:

  • Wash hands frequently and thoroughly, with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds.
  • Don’t touch your face.
  • Keep children and those with compromised immune systems away from someone who is coughing or sneezing (in this instance, at least six feet)
  • If there is an outbreak near you, practice social distancing (stay at home, instead of going to the movies, sports events, or other activities.)
  • Get a flu shot.
