Major winter storm predicted by National Weather Service

SALT LAKE CITY — The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning from 3 a.m. Monday, April 3, through 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 4.
On social media and online, the weather service described the coming event as a major winter storm.

The first wave of the system begins Sunday with rain in the northern Utah valleys and heavy snow at higher elevations. According to the warning, the storm will impact the Monday morning commute starting in Salt Lake County and including areas north of Salt Lake.
All told valleys could see five to ten inches of snow over the course of the storm, with some areas receiving as much as 15 to 18 inches. Forecasters say the mountain areas could accumulate snow totals of two to three feet and over four feet for the Cottonwood Canyon resorts.
