Mrs. Kristi Spendlove – Knowlton Elementary

Dear KSL,

We have a secret weapon at Knowlton Elementary in Farmington, Utah. Her name is Kristi Spendlove and she is my son Conley’s 1st grade teacher. She joins us this year for the first time and I want to take this opportunity to tell you a little about this amazing teacher and person.

If you were to come into her classroom you would notice the love she has for her job. She is constantly telling her children how much she loves teaching them and how she would never change what she is doing. She speaks to each child like they are the MOST IMPORTANT person in her life. And truly each child believes her. If you were to ask these children who was her favorite, they would each say, “well, I am.”

I am excited every time Conley comes home because of the things he would have done that day. For example, they have taken a trip around the world this year. They have visited every continent and several countries. At the beginning of the year, each child was given a passport for their journey. Each passport has a small picture of them, along with 2 finger prints, their school address, their birthdate, and their signature. When the time is ready to leave for their trip, they board Mrs. Spendlove’s Airlines and walk around the school for a bit to get to their new country/continent. They all return back to the classroom where Mrs. Spendlove has arranged herself or the help of a parent to help with the presentation. They learn about the culture, the weather, the animals, the foods, and anything unique about their trip. When they return back to the United States of America their passport is stamped with and American Flag stamp along with a stamp representing the place they have now visited. I was amazed at what Conley told me about Antarctica. “There are only a few animal species that can survive in such extreme weather conditions and did you know that if walk outside without special sun glasses that you can go “Ice blind.”

I want to share one more experience that Mrs. Spendlove has given our children this year. She gave a presentation on Michelangelo. She told them about all of the art that he gave to our world and shared pictures with them. To demonstrate the Sistine Chapel painting on the ceiling effect, Mrs. Spendlove had each child lay on their backs underneath their desks and paint a picture on paper that she had previously taped to the bottom of their desks. Each child came away with such a love for the art and especially Michelangelo.

I came across a saying about a TEACHER: Leads me, Encourages me, believes in me, Loves me!

Mrs. Kristi Spendlove does this and so much more for our 1st Grade children at Knowlton Elementary, Farmington, Utah.

Will you please consider in honoring Kristi Spendlove for the KSL Teacher Feature? She is truly our secret weapon and we are so honored to have her in our lives. Thank you so much for this opportunity and thank you for what you do for all of our wonderful teachers by recognizing them with this program.

Sincerely,

Camille Dickerson

We want to hear from you.
