OREM, Utah — Counselors were to be at Orem High School on Monday, to help any students and staff shaken by an officer-involved shooting that killed a 17-year-old boy.
The Alpine School District says they are heartbroken and working through this as a school and a community.
Police say officers shot 17-year-old Jacob Albrethsen after he came at them with a knife on Friday. Police were initially called to the home on Paradise Drive for a family problem. At some point, two officers say the teen threatened them. One officer was cut. Police say they tried to use a taser first but it didn’t work.
In a post on Facebook, Orem Police called this a tragedy anyway you look at it. It is under investigation.
