Please consider Mrs. Susan Weichers for your Teacher Feature:

I would like to share the experience of one teacher that is truly dedicated to making a difference in the lives of her students. Susan Weichers is a 3rd grade teacher at Bella Vista Elementary School in Cottonwood Heights. She never takes a full half hour lunch break, because she is helping individual students with their questions or learning activities. At the end of the day she stays until the sweepers need to lock up, only to take piles of homework home to correct. No time is wasted since she corrects papers at home, while riding in the car with her husband, and she has even been known to correct papers at an occasional Jazz game.

While some of her students begin the school year a little behind, by the end of the year they have all exceeded grade level. Her loving and disciplined approach to learning has helped many of her students excel, particularly in math and science. Many children struggle with math, however, at the end of the year the majority of Mrs. Weichers’ students select math as their favorite subject.

Parents and students love and appreciate her dedication to them and her profession. Even as she is getting close to retirement she takes every opportunity to take classes to learn more, improve her teaching and use any new tools that will help her students grow in their understanding. In the words of one parent, “Andrea came back home crying because she will miss you (next year). She mentioned that you gave her the best gift ever: to learn. I am so grateful for the wonderful influence you are. Thanks for all your hard work and for being a wonderful teacher.” Patricia Q.

One more card sneaked (not sure if this is a real word?) from Mrs. Weichers’ file from another grateful parent says: “Thank you so much for all you have done to help Alexis succeed in your class this year. We have watched her blossom not only as a student, but as a young lady with the help of your guidance and support. You truly have made a big difference and impact on her. Thanks again for all you do for all of your students. You are a wonderful and compassionate teacher.” Tiffany D.
Finally, from Alexis’ own thank you card: “I like having you as a teacher. You amaze me every day. Thanks for helping me when I do not know how to do something. I really appreciate you.”
