WASHINGTON, D.C. — Republicans at the national level say they are targeting the 4th District seat now held by Rep. Ben McAdams, D-Utah, in a push to take back the House in 2020.
The National Republican Congressional Committee is aiming to re-claim 30 other seats won by the GOP in 2016 when President Donald Trump took office, all of which are currently held by Democrats. Twenty-four other seats are being targeted as well, NRCC leaders say.
McAdams narrowly defeated Republican and two-term incumbent Mia Love last November in the 2018 midterm election by fewer than 700 votes.
NRCC chairman Tom Emmer, R-Minnesota, says Republicans are looking to recruit strong candidates who can successfully push back against Democratic party lawmakers who are currently forwarding what he calls radical socialist policies.
There are so far no confirmed challengers officially planning to run against McAdams, but rumors are circulating that several state lawmakers might want to, including State Senator Dan McCay, R-Riverton, and former West Jordan Mayor Dave Alvord among others.
