SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Several Utah malls announced they would begin reopening Monday, while still stressing public health guidelines and social distancing measures. This comes days after Gov. Gary Herbert announced the state would be moving from its red “Urgent Phase” to its orange “Stabilization Phase,” allowing some businesses to begin reopening.

The Gateway

The Gateway will open certain establishments, modifying hours and providing curbside delivery. Other stores may remain closed until further notice. Reopened establishments include:

  • Apothica — Reopened to booked appointments only beginning May 1.
  • AT&T — Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • ‘Bout Time Pub and Grill — Reopening Monday-Thursday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
  • Chedda Burger — Reopened from 12-8 p.m. for limited dine-in service with pick-up and takeout options available.
  • GameStop — Reopened with regular hours with curbside pickup and limited in-store purchases available

City Creek

City Creek will reopen Wednesday at 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with modified hours for its stores and restaurants. The mall stresses social distancing practices, providing signage to remind patrons to maintain six feet between each other.

The establishment will also be turning off water fountains and closing child play areas, with hand sanitizer stations provided throughout the mall.

City Creek will be strongly encouraging the use of face masks and gloves in areas that are not already mandated by local or state law.

Fashion Place

Fashion Place will open its doors Tuesday, noting its stores will comply with the governor’s and Salt Lake County mayor’s orders for non-essential businesses. This order states these non-essential retailers will cease operations, while restaurants will not provide dine-in service.

Stores that are reopening will have modified hours depending on the individual business, with the mall recommending patrons to call ahead to confirm.

  • AT&T (curbside pickup only)
  • Buckle (curbside pickup only)
  • California Pizza Kitchen
  • Chick-Fil-A
  • Nordstrom (curbside pickup only)
  • Olive Garden
  • The Container Store

Station Park

Station Park will require a six-foot distance between patrons, with separate retail stores establishing individual occupancy guidelines. The mall didn’t full close during the stay-at-home orders, maintaining modified hours and curbside delivery.

Mall staffs will continue sanitizing and disinfecting high-touch surfaces in common areas and office spaces. Mask and glove training will be required for all retail clerks and curbside delivery staff.

The Shops at South Town

South Town mall closed its doors April 3 to comply with CDC guidelines to curb the spread of COVID-19. The mall has not announced when it will reopen, with online shopping options available on its website

The mall stated on its website it will continue monitoring CDC guidelines and other local businesses to dictate its decision on reopening — possibly mirroring guidelines other Utah malls are establishing.
