A Celebration of George Floyd’s Life

Mia K. Wright, the co-pastor of The Fountain of Praise Church, says that the funeral services held at her church on Tuesday are going to be a celebration of George Floyd’s life.

“We celebrate a life that had its ups and downs as many lives do, but also a life that was connected to God and one that all people around the world have now connected to because of the tragedy and the trauma by which he passed,” Wright said.

“And so we want to have a home-going celebration. We want to remember his name,” she added.

All four officers involved in Floyd’s death have been charged

Minnesota’s Attorney General Keith Ellison announced last week that he would increase the charges against former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin to second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in George Floyd’s killing. In addition to the stiffer charges against Chauvin, the other three officers involved in the incident, Thomas Lane, J.A. Keung and Tou Thao have also been charged. Lane, 37, Kueng, 26, and Thao, 34, now face charges of aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter.

Video of the incident was captured and seen around the world. In it, a handcuffed Floyd, who was laying on the pavement, could be heard saying “I can’t breathe,” while Chauvin’s knee was placed on Floyd’s neck for more than 8 minutes.

Floyd’s death sparked hundreds of protests around the globe, calling for an end to racism and police brutality.
