OREM, Utah — Utah Valley University (UVU) announced it would be hosting its graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020, implementing a drive-thru system to maintain social distancing. The ceremony will celebrate the school’s largest graduating class in history.

The commencement ceremony — scheduled for Wednesday night — will follow eight separate convocation ceremonies, where graduates will receive their diplomas.

The 97th graduation ceremony will feature 6,410 graduates earning 6,840 degrees and certificates — the largest class in UVU history.

The night will begin with convocation ceremonies at 5 p.m., with commencement at 8:15 p.m. During the convocations, graduates will line up parade-style for a drive-thru celebration, designated by specific schools and disciplines.

The Class of 2020 will exit their cars one at a time to walk across a Wolverine-green stage to receive their degrees. Each graduate is allotted one car to drive through the parade with family and friends.

Once they finish, graduates are welcome to participate in a “drive-in” commencement — gathering near the Fulton Library to watch the ceremony. Commencement begins at 8:15 p.m. and will last roughly 45 minutes.
