SALT LAKE CITY — Unified Fire asks people to stay away from the Neffs Canyon Trailhead as crews fight a 60-acre fire burning near Mount Olympus.

Unified Fire spokesman Patrick Costin says the agency began receiving calls around midnight of a possible fire up the canyon. The teams did not engage until it became safe to do so during daylight hours.

“One of our wildland specialists did hike up to the fire and saw it was just about four to five acres at that time and saw it was just creeping really slowly,” Costin said.

Costin says that the fire will be visible from the valley; residents may see trees get torched every 20 or 30 minutes.

He asks everyone to avoid the Neffs Canyon trailhead to allow room for fire crews to safely work in the area.

Currently, the fire is not threatening any structures.
