SALT LAKE CITY — Parents and guardians of students in three Canyons School District schools, Corner Canyon, Brighton, and Alta High Schools, have received word that the schools will return to on-campus learning on Monday, Oct. 19.
Canyons District schools go back on-campus
This announcement comes on the heels of declining confirmed cases of COVID-19. At Corner Canyon High, 3 people have active cases of the virus. At Brighton High, six people have active cases. And at Alta High, seven people have active cases of COVID-19. At each school, the total number of active cases includes a combination of both students and employees.
Brighton and Alta high schools moved to a temporary split schedule on Wednesday, Oct. 7, after 13 students at Brighton and 22 students at Alta were diagnosed with COVID-19.
On September 18, the Canyons district reported more than 500 students had been quarantined. At that time a teacher was in intensive care suffering from COVID-19.
Lowered numbers clear the way
The number of active cases of COVID-19 at each of the three high schools is below the 1% positive threshold that acts as a triggering mechanism for extra mitigation strategies as listed in Canyons School District COVID-19 guidelines.
Parents and guardians can see COVID-19 data related to their schools at the District’s data dashboard.
All Canyons District schools are on a four-to-one schedule, which involves four days of classroom learning and one day, Friday, reserved for remote or independent learning.
How To Prevent the Spread of COVID-19Coronavirus
COVID-19 coronavirus is transmitted from person to person. It is a virus that is similar to the common cold and the flu. So, to prevent it from spreading:
- Wash hands frequently and thoroughly, with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds.
- Don’t touch your face.
- Keep children and those with compromised immune systems away from someone who is coughing or sneezing (in this instance, at least six feet)
- If there is an outbreak near you, practice social distancing (stay at home, instead of going to the movies, sports events, or other activities.)
- Get a flu shot.
