SALT LAKE CITY — One person was found dead after a fire in a vacant and padlocked house in Ogden on Sunday night.

The Ogden Fire Department says they responded to a fire at 2867 Lincoln Ave. around 7 p.m.  At that time they report that their crews saw flames coming from the home’s attic.

When it was safer for the fire crew to enter the home, they report a primary search found no people inside.

But upon a secondary search, Ogden fire officials say they found the body of a male inside a closet in the house. They believe he was in his 60s. He did not survive the fire.

Ogden officials report that someone had entered the home through a back door and that the fire started in the rear of the home. They say the fire was blocking the back exit of the home.

The fire then spread to the attic. Fire officials say the home did not have working smoke detectors.

The cause of the fire is still being determined, and fire investigators say they will provide more information as it becomes available.

Officials have not yet released the name of the man found dead at the scene, pending the notification of his family.
