With 17 seconds left on the clock and a commanding lead over Tulane during the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, Nevada embraced what is probably the most Idaho tradition in sport: The french fry bath.
Hoisting a blue cooler filled with the sliced spuds the Wolf Pack covered head coach Jay Norvell in fries.
Right after that, players dumped a big orange cooler full of Gatorade right into his face.
Their zealous celebrations, though, didn’t go unnoticed by the officiating crew. After a fair number of the fries ended up on the blue “smurf turf” in Boise, the team was hit with a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
That french fry bath penalty allowed Tulane one final push to score a 65-yard touchdown. Nevada was still able to keep the victory, though, finishing the game 38-27.
