SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department identified Thursday a body found in the Jordan River last month as 49-year-old Joseph Salas.

SLCPD officials also said Salas was the victim of a homicide. An investigation into his death is under way.

Jordan River body investigation continues, family devastated

A passerby spotted the body in the water June 9 near 1300 West and North Temple and called police.

Salas’ family spent Thursday posting signs in hopes of learning more about what happened to him. They described themselves as devastated.

“There was nothing bad you could say about him. Nothing,” Heather Ramos, Salas’ wife said to KSL TV. “Nothing bad you could say about him. I just can’t look into my little grandson’s eyes, and know he is hurting. And I don’t have an answer for him. We need answers.”

Ramos asks for those who may have information to come forward.

“Somebody knows something,” she said. “And if they could please, please call and help us.”
