SALT LAKE CITY — Who do Democrats fear most? Supporters of former President Donald Trump and unvaccinated people. For Republican and Independent voters, the top three threats to the US are the Taliban, Defund the Police activists and China, a Scott Rasmussen national survey found.
He joined Inside Sources host Boyd Matheson to discuss his latest national poll findings.
“I think the danger for Democrats is, if you label half the nation as one of the greatest threats to the nation, you’re not exactly going to win them over in a popularity contest,” Rasmussen said.
“It’s always hard when you lead with offensive language towards a group that you’re actually trying to court or to get their vote,” Boyd replied.
Rasmussen said his poll found a political conflict growing. The Biden administration works with people like Dr. Anthony Fauci to spread the message of the importance of vaccination against COVID-19. The unvaccinated don’t respect the 80-year-old scientist, doctor and public servant.
“If you believe that the unvaccinated are one of the most serious threats to the nation, you have a very aggressive attitude towards them,” Rasmussen said.
Polling also shows that Democrats don’t see a difference between those who assaulted the US Capitol on Jan. 6 and the supporters of former President Trump.
“There’s a belief perhaps that most Trump voters are happy about what happened on January 6. And that’s just not the case,” Rasmussen said.
After President Joe Biden’s speech Sept. 9 announcing new COVID mandates for as many as 100 million Americans, 63% of registered voters feel very motivated to cast a ballot in next year’s midterm elections, according to Rasmussen’s poll.
“The group that is more motivated to take part in the midterms than any other in the nation right now are people who want policies like those articulated by former President Trump,” he said.
Rasmussen closed by saying that if national congressional elections were held today, Republicans would win the House and probably win the Senate.
“But that’s today, and the elections are a year from November. As you know, that’s a lifetime in politics,” he said.
“Or 10 lifetimes,” Boyd said.
