CENTERVILLE, Utah — Police say they thwarted a series of Bountiful porch thefts and recovered a stolen car thanks to alert neighbors and help from neighboring police agencies.

Stolen car, alert neighbors help solve Bountiful porch thefts

On Monday, Bountiful police said they received a report of porch thefts in the area of 400 North and 200 West. The caller described seeing a man and woman taking packages from porches. That person described the suspects as well as the car they were driving, including the vehicle plate number.

Police learned through the license plate that the car, a Honda Civic, was stolen. And not long after, police said they found the car near Viewmont High School.

When they tried to stop the car, police say the suspects fled.

At that point, police agencies from Centerville, Woods Cross and West Bountiful began helping search for the stolen Civic. They located the car in a Target parking lot and the suspects in another nearby parking lot.

Because of previous video surveillance and eyewitness accounts of the original police stop, the suspects were identified as those behind the porch thefts.

Bountiful police say they were able to return five packages to their owners and to recover the stolen car.
